Com 14 pontos conquistados em dez jogos, o clube está a quatro pontos do Cuiabá, que ocupa a quarta colocação e garante o acesso à elite do futebol brasileiro.
Além dos desafios dentro de campo, o Furacão encontra obstáculos no mercado de transferências, pois vem sofrendo diversas recusas de jogadores que poderiam fortalecer o elenco. Apesar de ter chegado a um acordo financeiro com nomes como Lautaro Díaz e Igor Vinícius, ambos pediram férias durante o Mundial, o que impediu a concretização dos negócios.
Assim, o clube busca jogadores pouco utilizados em times da primeira divisão nacional, mas a ausência de participação na elite tem dificultado sua negociação, uma vez que outros clubes, como o Sport, já avançaram nas tratativas por empréstimo, incluindo o meia Wellington Rato, atualmente sondado pelo Athletico.
O técnico Odair Hellmann comentou sobre a situação, destacando a dificuldade de convencer os jogadores a se transferirem: “Quando ligamos para o mercado, o Athletico continua com uma estrutura e torcida gigantes, mas a gente liga e o jogador não quer vir.” Assim, o Furacão precisa acelerar suas estratégias para reforçar o elenco e buscar melhores resultados na Série B, visando uma rápida ascensão na tabela e o retorno à Série A.
